New Badger on the block? 7th September 2025

You may have noticed that updates have been somewhat sparse of late. This is because there hasn't been much badger activity around the setts of late. Plenty of Robin, rabbit, mouse and fox activity, but precious little badger activity.

This past week saw a brief up tick in activity.
A badger having a good dig at the 'outlier' sett. But is it a new badger?
Badgers will be looking for a sett. Some as they have reached adulthood. Others moving sett. Then some have been displaced due to the huge amount of house building that has been going on in this area. Regardless of which, it is nice to see badger activity. Not sure for how long, though.
Badgers seem to have a go at this sett, every now and again. They never seem to stay.
After a brief period of frantic digging, the badger appeared to give up. I'd love to understand what it is about this sett that discourages badgers from setting up home.

Now, a rather damp badger. It did rain heavily over a couple of days or so, much to our relief. Britain has experienced several heat waves this year, and a long period of drought.
I'm not sure how many badgers there are visiting these setts. This badger, for instance, coming by the main sett, appears to be familiar with the area. Having had a sniff, it charges off to head between some shrubs, obviously knowing where it is going.  Remember, it is very dark.
Well, it remains to be seen if any badgers will make any of these setts home again. I'm slightly concerned that the batteries in the trail cam that took the above video may run out of charge. A robin, and other small birds, frequent this area, causing the trail cam to take over 400 pictures an videos.
