Life at Badger Manor bumbles along as usual. I can't really work out if we have two or three badgers. I need to sit down and examine my photos and videos closely, looking for features unique to each badger. One badger went on a mega bedding housekeeping, bringing in twelve loads of bedding into the main sett. Promising behaviour for a permanent sett with the possibility of a breeding pair. I am now more convinced that the sett has multiple entrances. I have my trail cams trained on the 'main' entrance. I think I know where the other entrances are - one to the left and right of the main entrance - but getting trail cams on to them is tricky. However, the trail cams on the main entrance do show badgers leaving the sett during the evening, not returning in the morning of the next day. But then in the evening, a badger pops out of the main entrance. Areas in front badger sett entrances tend to be cleared of vegetation. This attracts a lot of wildlife, both mammal and avian. In turn, this attracts predators...like this Sparrowhawk. Perhaps my most extraordinary video in all the years I've had trail cams out. Deer (Roe and Muntjac) do wander into the main sett area three or four times a year. Here we have a male and female. You can also hear a male Tawny owl hooting away. Both male and female Tawny owls can be heard on many videos from this site.
